Pulse Research
Pulse Research was founded in 1985 to provide publishing clients with research based advertising sales and marketing programs designed to get results. The company provides research and marketing services for daily and weekly newspapers, shopper publications and other special interest publications across the US and Canada. Founded and staffed by individuals with experience in daily, weekly, specialty and trade newspapers and magazines, Pulse Research understands the challenges faced by newspapers. Pulse Research has worked with over 1,750 publishing clients in all 50 states and Canada; completing over 4,000 surveys for daily, weekly and suburban newspapers, shoppers, business and other niche publications.

John Marling
John Marling is the President and founder of Pulse Research. As publisher for a weekly newspaper group with over 100,000 circulation, serving suburbs of Portland for over 13 years, he recognized the need for research information that was more effective at communicating the value of a publication's readers to advertisers. That was the beginning of Pulse Research, Inc in 1985. John is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Marketing and Market Research. He has experience as an sales person, retail manager, circulation manager, marketing manager and general manager at the Times Community Newspapers before he was made publisher. John is a nationally respected speaker, presenting to over 50 national and state associations such as NNA and American Press Institute, as well as IFPA and AFPA.
